Port of Boston is the third busiest in the U.S. for cargo and second busiest for passengers.

Boston trails only New York and Philadelphia in cargo and only New York in passengers. The port handles 2,915,152 tons of import cargo, 263,461 tons of export cargo, 12,510,749 tons of domestic cargo and 15,689,362 total tons. 8,018 vessels, excluding those engaged in fishing, enter the port this year; and 7,899 sail from the port. Very few ships, however, are Boston-owned or operated. Foreign passenger traffic is 104,401.
